Best Halloween Charcuterie Board: Easy Cheese Ghosts

Halloween charcuterie board - featured image

A festive and easy-to-assemble Halloween charcuterie board featuring spooky cheese ghosts made from sharp cheddar and cream cheese, paired with cured meats, fruits, nuts, and crackers.

Ingredients

  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese (block form, cut into rectangles)
  • Soft Cream Cheese (room temperature, for eyes and arms)
  • Assorted Crackers (water crackers, wheat thins, or pretzel crisps)
  • Cured Meats (salami, prosciutto, or pepperoni)
  • Dried Fruits (dried apricots, figs, or cranberries)
  • Nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
  • Fresh Fruit (grapes, apple slices, or pear slices)
  • Olives (Kalamata or green olives)
  • Honey or Fig Jam

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Blocks: Cut sharp cheddar cheese into rectangular blocks (approx. 1-inch thick, 2-inch wide, 3-inch long). Place on a plate and cover if not using immediately.
  2. Make the Cheese Ghosts: Using a piping bag filled with cream cheese, pipe two small dots near the top of each cheese block for eyes. Pipe a wavy line extending from the sides to create arms. Repeat for all blocks.
  3. Arrange the Base Ingredients: Place small bowls on the board for dips, nuts, or olives. Arrange crackers in a cluster or fan shape, stacking or leaning them for height.
  4. Add the Meats and Cheeses: Fold or roll cured meats and place them in spaces between crackers. Add remaining cheese blocks or slices, filling gaps without overcrowding.
  5. Fill in with Fruits and Nuts: Scatter dried fruits, fresh fruit, and nuts around the board. Use grapes or apple slices for color pops and tuck nuts into small gaps.
  6. Final Touches: Add final garnishes like fresh herbs or edible flowers if desired. Check for color and texture balance. Keep fresh fruit from browning by adding them last.

Notes

Serve cheeses at room temperature for best flavor. Take them out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving. If preparing ahead, cover with plastic wrap and remove 15 minutes before serving. For gluten-free options, use gluten-free crackers. For dairy-free, substitute cheddar with vegan cheese and omit or substitute cream cheese arms.
