A warm, spiced cocktail that combines apple cider, whiskey, and aromatic spices for a comforting fall drink. This easy-to-make beverage is perfect for cozy nights and requires minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)
  • Large ice cubes
  • Garnish: dried orange slice or fresh apple wheel

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of apple cider into a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the cinnamon stick and a pinch of nutmeg. Warm for 3-4 minutes without boiling.
  2. Remove the pan from heat and let the spices steep in the cider for 2 minutes to infuse flavor.
  3. Place a large ice cube in your serving glass.
  4. In a separate mixing glass or mug, combine the whiskey and bitters. Stir gently. Add maple syrup if the cider is not sweet enough.
  5. Pour the warm, spiced cider into the mixing glass with the whiskey. Stir slowly for 10 seconds to blend.
  6. Pour the mixture over the ice in the serving glass. Garnish with a dried orange slice or fresh apple wheel and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not boil the cider as it breaks down delicate flavors. Use large ice cubes to prevent dilution. For batch preparation, heat the cider in a slow cooker but keep whiskey separate until serving. Most whiskeys are naturally gluten-free, but check labels. Ensure bitters are vegan-friendly if needed.
