Recreate the legendary taste of a dive bar favorite with these crispy slow cooker buffalo chicken sliders. Tender, shredded chicken coated in tangy buffalo sauce is served on butter-toasted buns with melted cheddar cheese for the perfect game day appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buffalo sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls or potato rolls (slider buns)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Blue cheese dressing, for serving
  • Celery sticks, for serving

Instructions

  1. Place chicken breasts in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker in a single layer.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together buffalo sauce, melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and apple cider vinegar.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours, until chicken is tender and easily shreds.
  5. Remove chicken from slow cooker and reserve 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid.
  6. Shred the chicken using two forks or a hand mixer. Return chicken to the slow cooker and stir in the reserved liquid.
  7. Preheat oven broiler to high. Slice slider buns in half horizontally.
  8. Brush the cut sides of the buns with a mixture of butter and a pinch of garlic powder.
  9. Place buns cut-side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet and broil for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  10. Remove buns from oven. Place shredded buffalo chicken on the bottom bun halves.
  11. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the chicken.
  12. Place top bun halves on the sliders.
  13. Return assembled sliders to the baking sheet and broil for another 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes before serving with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.

Notes

Do not skip the reserved cooking liquid; it keeps the shredded chicken moist. Toasting the buns before adding the chicken creates a barrier against sogginess. Watch the broiler closely as ovens vary in heat intensity. For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken with jackfruit. These can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven to restore crispiness.
