A stunning no-bake dessert featuring layers of creamy vanilla pudding, soft angel food cake, and crunchy candy corn. This quick and easy trifle comes together in just 15 minutes and is perfect for Halloween parties, Thanksgiving potlucks, or any fall gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 store-bought angel food cake (about 1012 oz)
  • 1 ½ cups candy corn
  • 1 cup whipped topping (Cool Whip or homemade stabilized whipped cream)
  • Optional: ¼ cup orange and yellow sprinkles (for garnish)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Make the pudding: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and 2 cups of cold whole milk. Whisk for about 2 minutes until the mixture thickens. Pop it in the fridge for 5 minutes to firm up slightly while you prep the other ingredients.
  2. Cube the cake: Take your angel food cake and slice it into 1-inch cubes. You should get about 4 to 5 cups of cake cubes.
  3. Prepare your workspace: Lay out all your components: the pudding, cake cubes, candy corn, whipped topping, and any optional garnishes.
  4. First layer: Start with a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of your trifle dish. Use about a third of the cake, spreading it evenly. Don’t press it down.
  5. Pudding layer: Spoon half of the vanilla pudding over the cake cubes. Use the back of your spoon to spread it gently, making sure it gets into the gaps.
  6. Candy corn layer: Sprinkle about half a cup of candy corn over the pudding. Press a few pieces gently into the pudding so they stay put.
  7. Repeat the layers: Add another third of the cake cubes, followed by the remaining pudding, and another half cup of candy corn.
  8. Top it off: Add the final third of cake cubes. Spread the whipped topping evenly over the top, all the way to the edges of the dish.
  9. Garnish: Sprinkle the remaining half cup of candy corn over the whipped topping. Add the orange and yellow sprinkles if you’re using them, and drizzle with caramel sauce for extra flair.
  10. Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.

Notes

For best results, chill overnight. The candy corn softens to a pleasant chewiness and the cake absorbs the pudding for a better texture. If short on time, minimum chill time is 4 hours. Do not freeze this dessert. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
